Motor Vehicle Service
The Company unnecessarily removed two perfectly good struts (shocks) from my 2017 Toyota Harrier with 21,445 kilometers (and replaced with new ones at significantly high cost. I had taken the car in for general servicing and had no performance complaints. I note the car was very uncomfortable after it was serviced and returned to the company. They claimed the tyres, two of which they replaced, were inflated at 36 psi and that it would be reduced to 30psi. The ride was still bumpy so again I returned to MACK but this time I requested a copy of the bill for the struts purchased as I wanted to confirm the type of struts placed on the car. They indicated it was not company policy to do this so my request was denied.
The struts they removed which I subsequently retrieved from Mack were tested and found to be good by two reputable service providers. I was also advised to keep the struts for future use. When I complained to MACK Ltd. they insisted their machine used for testing was accurate and angrily referred me to the Consumer Affairs Commission indicating the only thing the Commission will do is to request the machine report. Note I received several calls during the day informing of several increases to the bill. When I received the last call minutes before the service was completed the bill had ballooned to $223,494.00 to include the cost of two (2) new tyres! I consider a major portion of this expenditure unnecessary. I subsequently learnt shocks are good up to 50,000 miles - the mileage on my car was a mere 10,000+ miles! The car sits in my parking area most days and I rarely go out of town nor do I I encounter any significantly bad roads. I am extremely disappointed.
