Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma from a recognized accredited institution in Electrical Installation or any other area in Electrical Works 
  • A minimum of (2) years’ experience in Electrical Installation 

Or  

  • National Vocational Qualification - level III certification in Electrical Installation (preferably from NCTVET), and three years’ work experience in an acute hospital or large commercial/residential operation. 
  • Certification in Boiler Management and the operations and maintenance of generators would be an asset 
  • Possession of a reliable motor vehicle is an asset 

 

Specific Knowledge and Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of Jamaica Building Electrical Codes and or codes of practice for Building
  • Construction and infrastructure works 
  • Specialized knowledge to analyze and solve complex problems 
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical theory and methods, materials, tools, equipment, and systems Inspection of, identification, and knowledge of all electrical distribution systems (24- 440 volts) Good time management skills 
  • Good oral communication and human relations skills 
  • Possess good work ethics 

 

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Install, service, and repair lighting fixtures, electrical panels, outlets and wiring.
  • Repair electrical equipment or appliances by troubleshooting problems, replacing worn parts, switches, fuses, and rewiring electronic motors. 
  • Install conductors, splice cables, build terminations and does necessary hook-up for primary power lines. 
  • Install, repair, and service specialized electrical equipment and machinery following manufacturer’s instructions and safety precautions. 
  • Transferring primary power from one power source to another. 
  • Operating power hand tools and other specialized equipment. 
  • Maintain, review, and establish effective utilization of maintenance log.
  • Containing cost by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
