Job Purpose:

Under the general direction of the Supervisor/Parish Administrative Officer, the incumbent shall have responsibility to conduct preventative, corrective and scheduled maintenance of all electro-mechanical plants and equipment at the health facilities throughout the parish and adhering to existing regulatory standards, safety procedures, electrical and mechanical engineering codes. 

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • HEART Level III in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering 
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or its equivalent 
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience as a Electro- Mechanical Engineering Technician in a (major hospital) 
  • Any equivalent combination of qualification and experience. 
  • Possess a valid General Driver’s Licence 

 

Specific Knowledge and Required Skills:

  • Expertise in Maintenance Management 
  • In-depth knowledge of electro-mechanical plants and equipment, as well as testing, diagnostic and measuring equipment available on the market 
  • Working knowledge of Computerized Medical Equipment Management System
  • Broad based knowledge of international standards/requirements for Electromechanical equipment 
  • Ability to apply Electromechanical Training to other areas when required 
  • Computer literate 
  • Ability to communicate efficiently in written and oral format at all level 
  • Well-developed training skills 
  • Ability to work well with others 

 

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical advice, code and standards for electrical, steam, generating and distribution systems and equipment used in health care facilities in the region.
  • Collaborating with the Biomedical and Civil Engineers in the establishment of a library of manufacturer's resource material, current manuals and periodicals on electrical equipment/machines for training and reference purpose. 
  • Monitoring the reported preventative and corrective maintenance data for power system and equipment by the Regional Maintenance Units on the Maximo Maintenance Management 
  • System and make assessments as to condition, performance and the application of accepted maintenance standards. 
  • Performing complex diagnosis and correction of electrical and mechanical equipment failures and system problems in response to request from the Regional Health Authorities Solicit assistance locally or overseas, as required. 
  • Participating in the establishment of operating guidelines for the Regional Maintenance Unit. 
  • Evaluating and making recommendations re: Electromechanical equipment being considered for purchase giving consideration to each model’s performance ranges, the operational capabilities of the users involved and the frequency of use. 
  • Performing pre-acceptance inspections of electromechanical equipment and developing preventative maintenance procedures on newly acquired equipment. 
  • Developing innovations to keep the maintenance cost for electrical and mechanical systems and equipment to a minimum while ensuring safety and reliability.
